The auctions season is getting closer and today we want to show you a very rare watch that will be sold by Kaplans on May 14th.
We are talking about a Tudor watch, the Tudor “Home Plate”
Lot number 75 : it is a rare piece in great condition. It got its name “Home Plate” from the shape of the indexes, which reminds you of the home plate in base ball (the final base that a player must touch to score). It has a clear resemblance with the very popular Tudor “Monte Carlo”, which also got its nickname because of its dial that reminds you of a roulette wheel in the very famous casino.

About the Tudor Montecarlo:
Tudor puts its rst chronograph on the market in 1970. The stainless steel case measures 40mm in diameter and 14mm in thickness. Lugs are satin nished and have polished and bevelled edges. The winding crown, with double seal “Twinlock”, has a 7mm diameter and is protected by large squared shoulders. The screw-down pushers have a “milled” design. The dial called Montecarlo has the typical graphic design of the 1970’s. Indexes have a pentagonal shape and are tritium coated, the two registers display constant seconds at 9 o’clock and chronograph minutes at 3 o’clock. The shield, which is the Tudor logo, is applied in steel. The “sword” style hands are tted to this model only. The bezel with bakelite insert bears the tachometer scale in km/h. The manual winding movement is Valjoux 7734, cam switched, with 18,000 beats/hour. The date at 6 o’clock is enlarged by a magnifying lens inserted in the hesalite crystal. This watch is accompanied by a Rolex Oyster bracelet with folding links reference 7836. (FROM THE BOOK TUDOR ANTHOLOGY)
